Host

Daniel Darkens

Daniel hosts most of the episodes of the podcast. He has a keen interest in obscure characters from history as well as a range of other interests. He lives in Essex in the UK and works as a health and safety professional during the daytime, focussing on building the podcast when he's not helping people keep themselves and others safe.

Minna Hayman

Minna is originally from a fairly small town in Finland , though she has lived in Malta for more than twenty years now - quite a contrast, weather-wise!

Daniel and Minna have known each other since meeting in 2017 when they both formed part of a groiup of cyclists riding from Land's End to John O'Groats (the southwestern tip of the UK to the northeastern, a journey of about 1,600km).

Her enthusiasm and joy has been a real boost to the podcast.

Co-host

Nina Bickerton

Nina was the original inspiration for the Obscure podcast, although this came about from a conversation with Daniel that started along the lines of 'I think we should do a podcast. I just don't know what about'. It kind of built from there to the podcast you see today.

She lives in Suffolk in England and her most loyal friend, fan and confidant is her dog Lord Percival.

The Department of Reasonable Expectations

Some podcasts have a “contact us” section. We have the Department of Reasonable Expectations. Correspond with the Temporary Secretary (in a high‑tech world, Permanent is passé), who will assess whether your expectations are, in fact, reasonable.

📧 DepartmentofReasonableExpectations@hotmail.com

The Department is responsible for the overall quality of the podcast, and specifically:

  • The level of fact checking
  • The use of relevant supporting material and images
  • The amount of deviation from the core subject
  • The quality of video and audio production

Do not expect perfection, maintain reasonable expectations at all times.
